I can't believe it... it's been more than two years since I've updated my site. A major overhaul will be happening later this year, but here are some things that have been going on in my world...

The Billy Currington song referenced below wound up being the most-played song of 2007 as well as the ASCAP song of the year: it was great to be an integral part of such a MONSTER hit! I did a bit of road work on Tim McGraw's 2008 Live Your Voice tour with the opener Halfway to Hazard and I can sum it up with two words---GREAT CATERING! Also, I made it up to New York twice that fall to perform on The Late Show With David Letterman; those performances will be on my updated videos page, but you can find them on my youtube channel here: http://www.youtube.com/user/renwicksmithcurry

Last fall and this Spring I did some touring with Julianne Hough of "Dancing With The Stars" fame, and a bunch of super fun guys in the band. Additionally, I recently got back from a two week trip to China where we rocked the place and I can attest: it's BIG!

This February I was asked to act in the new Gwyneth Paltrow film "Love Don't Let Me Down". I played a steel guitar player, so it wasn't too much of a stretch for me! My scene was with the lovely Leighton Meester, and the film will be in theaters later this year.

I've been writing some great new tunes (well at least I think they are!), and performing them locally with my two bands The White Owls and Smith and Todd's Excellent Adventure. Be sure to look for more music coming up soon!

I've also gotten a few good climbing trips in. I went to Yosemite in May 2007 where I did some smaller climbs, then spent two and a half days on Mt. Watkins's 2,900ft south face. The following January's ice climbing trip out to Colorado was spectacular with some pretty fun/scary free solos as well as a few dicey leads. In August 2008 I went to the Pacific Northwest, where I tackled Mt. Slesse's northwest buttress: a huge fang of rock in British Columbia's Chiliwack region. We started at 1 am and it wound up being a thirty hour push car-to-car due to not only the 3,000 feet of vertical rock but also the insane 25+ mile hike out!

Well folks,  2006 turned out to be a pretty crazy year!!!!  The spring tour with Erasure was incredible: beautiful historic theaters, great songs, singers, and musicians.  World class dining, drinking and sightseeing, and even a little rock climbing on England's famous gritstone.  A DVD of our show at Nashville's Ryman theater just came out and is available at Erasureinfo.com.

I went out on my first country tour in five or six years this summer with my old friend Trent Tomlinson.  We had a blast as can be seen in some of the new pics in the Gallery, even playing on Howard Stern's show!

Some of the records I played on did very well, with Jason Aldean's "Why" with my lap steel solo, going to #1, and his "Amarillo Sky" featuring my pedal steel going to #4.  Also Billy Currington's new single "Good Directions" is climbing the charts, and can be heard here.  In the "Little Record That Could" department, I contributed to Nashville local Tommy Womack's record "There, I Said It!" which keeps getting more and more critical acclaim and national attention......Deservedly.  Kid Rock's "Live Trucker" CD was released, and featured my steel on some of his biggest hits including "Picture" and "Only God Knows Why".  Finally my solo record (WAY behind schedule) is about four songs closer to being finished, and I'm really proud of the new stuff.

And last, but certainly not least, I married longtime GF Stephanie on September 10: a photo and other fun stuff can be seen on the new "personal" page.

Have fun and kick ass!!!
